In October of 2024, I traveled with my 17 year old granddaughter to present at a conference in Johannesburg called Trauma24. The other presenters were Helena Bester, a major force in neurofeedback in South Africa and Mozambique, Dr. Frank Corrigan, the author of Deep Brain Reorienting, to my mind the most important breakthrough in therapy for severe trauma, and esteemed trauma and dissociation researcher, Dr. Ruth Lanius. Over the two days, I spoke for five separate hours, weaving a story about attachment, neuroscience of trauma, therapy and the need for new approaches in reference throughout to Frank’s and Ruth’s work. This is a reflection on the conference, on the fact that it was held in the very poor country of South Africa, and what that meant to them. I hope you enjoy. Everything that we said at that conference is still highly relevant and I’m working on a way to bring it to the internet with whatever updates we have. More on that as it develops. Sebern
